This class is appropriate for experienced painters in watermedia who have painting supplies and have completed some paintings of their own. Beginners with no experience would be uncomfortable but people who have only taken a few classes would be equipped to participate. It is designed for people who paint in watercolor but are reluctant to tackle paintings of people.
The goal of this class will be to experience painting a portrait in watercolor. Each student will need to bring in their own art supplies, but a reference photo of a person will be provided. During the first half of the day, students will do a small, one color value study to be a guide for their subsequent larger color painting. Then in the second half of the day, they will do a painting that refers back to the resource photo and the value study. All drawings will be provided because the focus of this class is paint application, color mixing, and planning a portrait in watercolor.
At the end of the day, each student will be better able to plan a painting and execute it from initial composition, through establishing the values and shapes, and mixing and applying colors.
Include a supply fee of $35. Please bring your lunch.
