Stone Carving
Stone carving classes at the Creative Arts Center of Dallas teach direct carving — removing material from a block of stone to release a form, working in alabaster, limestone, and marble. Beginners learn to read the stone, rough out a shape with point and chisel, refine with rasps, and finish and polish a sculpture of their own. It's subtractive, deliberate, and deeply satisfying work.
Classes are open to adults at all levels, and our stone yard is set up for it — carving stations, tools, and the space and dust management this work needs are provided; you bring a few personal items listed on each class page. Stone carving runs well as longer classes, since a piece develops over weeks, with occasional intensives for a focused start.
There aren't many places to learn to carve stone, which makes this one of the Creative Arts Center's distinctive offerings. Our instructors are working stone sculptors. As a nonprofit, we keep instruction accessible — our scholarship program helps cover tuition for students who need it.
