Clay Sculpture

Clay sculpture classes at the Creative Arts Center of Dallas treat clay as a sculptural medium — building form, figure, and expressive work by hand, rather than functional pottery on the wheel. You'll work with coil, slab, and modeling techniques to build hollow forms, sculpt the human figure, or develop your own ideas in three dimensions, then fire the finished piece.

Classes welcome adults at all levels. Beginners start with the fundamentals of building stable form and reading volume, while returning students push scale and detail. The studio provides modeling tools, armatures, a range of clay bodies, and kiln firing — shared equipment is included, and any personal supplies are noted on the class page and yours to keep.

If you've enjoyed handbuilding in ceramics and want to go further into sculpture, this is the next step. Our instructors are sculptors who work in clay themselves. We're a nonprofit, and we don't want cost to keep anyone from making art — our scholarship program helps cover tuition.
