Metal Arts

Metal arts classes at the Creative Arts Center of Dallas work metal at a larger scale than the jewelry bench — welding and fabrication in our metal yard and shop. Depending on the class you'll learn to weld, cut, and join steel and build sculptural or functional work from raw stock. Beginners start with safety and fundamentals — striking an arc, running a clean bead — and finish a real piece by the end.

Classes are open to adults at every level, including people who've never welded before. The shop and yard provide welders, cutting and fabrication tools, and the heavy equipment that makes this work possible; any personal supplies are noted on the class page.

There's a real thrill the first time two pieces of steel become one — welding is physical, focused, and unlike anything else. Our instructors are practicing metal artists and fabricators. As a nonprofit, we keep instruction accessible — our scholarship program helps cover tuition for students who need it.
