Fused Glass | Maya | Sat afternoon

A class for all skill levels, students will learn a wide-array of techniques using the various forms of glass including sheet glass, chips (frit), powdered glass, and stringers--all of which come in brilliant colors. Students will use proven methods of working with glass while also venturing into exciting new realms of creating glass art. This class will definitely allow your creativity to flourish.

Students at the beginning of their fused glass journey will make five or six projects that will exemplify the fusing concepts. Topics will include cutting and fitting glass for a project, how temperature affects the glass, kiln safety, and problem solving. You will leave this class with a few nice pieces of art glass and an understanding of the aesthetic aspects of this fascinating art form.

Students with previous experience will build on their knowledge, skills and technical expertise.

Jessica Maya has been teaching various art forms in the DFW metroplex for over 20 yrs. While she does still consider herself an “early career artist”, she has a background in performance art, welding, various forms of glass manipulation and mixed media sculpture. She approaches both her teaching and artistic practice in a way that is infused with creativity, curiosity and a zest for learning new things. While her approach to glass is more sculptural in nature, she approaches it in a way that is both accessible to students while still allowing them the space and freedom to find their own creative voice in the kiln-formed glass world. 

Bring an n95 mask, safety glasses and closed toed shoes for the first day.
