From Drawing to Painting: Beginner Oil Painting | Garcia | Sat Evening

Take the next step from drawing into painting in this structured bridge class designed to help students confidently transition between the two disciplines. Many students understand drawing fundamentals but feel uncertain about how to apply those skills in a painting context, while others want to strengthen their drawing foundation to improve their painting practice.

Guided by instructor Lorena Garcia, students will begin by reinforcing essential drawing concepts such as observation, proportion, composition, and value. These foundational skills will then be directly translated into painting exercises using oil paint, focusing on color, brushwork, and building form through paint.

In the second half of the course, students will apply these concepts to a personal painting project, developing a finished work based on a reference image of their choice. This approach provides a clear and supportive progression from structured foundational studies to independent artistic decision making.

This class is designed for beginners as well as students with some drawing or painting experience who want to strengthen the connection between drawing fundamentals and painting practice.
