Color Mixing - With a Purpose Workshop

Single Session Workshop
Saturday 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
7/25
6 of 6 spots available

Spend some time learning more about color, tone, values and various applications.

Approaches I'll be guiding you through:

  • Choosing  and mixing colors for your painting: Through careful looking and  experimentation we will investigate intensity, opacity, translucency and  tonal variations. Setting up your palette and making multiple variations (which can happen pretty quickly) before heading to the canvas.
  • Starting with thinner washes and layers, building up to thicker paint and glazes.
  • Ways  to get one color area to transition to the next and why some  combinations are more agreeable than others - and the workarounds.
  • Experimenting with various ways to handle a brush; amounts of pressure, directional  strokes and types of brushes for various effects.

Participants may choose from one of the references to work from. I will have them printed out and you can also load the image onto your ipad. We'll work to achieve particular colors, stokes and transitions etc - skills and knowledge you can apply to any of your paintings, including abstraction,  moving forward. I chose these particular pieces for the variety of color and challenges to explore.
