From Objects to Composition: Still Life Drawing | Garcia | Wed afternoon

Explore the fundamentals of drawing through a series of collaborative still life studies. Each week, students will bring objects to contribute to a shared collection, which the class will use to create a new still life arrangement. Each composition will provide an opportunity to focus on a different drawing concept while gaining experience working from observation.

Throughout the first part of the course, students will explore essential drawing fundamentals including sketching, line, shape, proportion, light and shadow, value, texture, color, and composition. Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual feedback, students will practice applying these concepts to a variety of objects and arrangements.

In the final weeks, the class will create one shared still life composition to serve as the foundation for a final project. Students will work from this arrangement over multiple sessions, gradually developing a more complete and finished drawing while applying the skills and concepts explored throughout the course.

This class is designed for beginners as well as students with some drawing experience who want to strengthen their fundamentals through hands-on practice, observation, and a variety of still life studies.
